The anisotropic low-energy quasiparticle excitations indicates multiple superconducting components in a chiral complex form. The most consistent is a chiral non-unitary state.

Lower superconducting critical fields of UTe have been determined. Orthorhombic UTe has magnetic easy axis along the -axis. We found perpendicular to showed anomalous enhancement. By comparing with anisotropy of upper critical fields, effect of magnetic fluctuations on superconductivity is suggested.

The present study focuses on testing a methodology to quantify sorption reduction factors (SRFs) in the presence of organic ligands for cement systems. Three approaches for the estimation of SRFs; (1) analogy with solubility enhancement factors, (2) radionuclide speciation based on the thermodynamic calculations, and (3) experimental sorption data in ternary systems, were coupled and tested for the representative organic ligands (ISA and EDTA) and selected key radionuclides (actinides). Our approach allows to critically evaluate the dependence of SRFs for various systems on the chosen method of quantification, in accordance with the data availability for a given systems. The reliable SRFs can only be derived from the sorption measurements in ternary systems. SRF often need to be derived in the absence of such direct evidence, and estimations need to be made based on analogies and speciation information. However, such estimates may be subject to substantial uncertainties.

The pseudo-binary system, CsMoO-MoO, was thermochemically modeled with Redlich-Kister formulation to form a basis to analyze the high-temperature behavior of CsMoO. The model prediction was compared with the thermogravimetric measurements of CsMoO in dry and humid argon, which revealed that the mass-loss rate was enhanced in the humid atmosphere. Thermochemical model was further applied to predict the partitioning of cesium and molybdenum among gaseous species in the BWR core degradation condition typical of Short-Term Station Blackout.

The Ningyo-toge Environmental Engineering Center of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency had managed the decommissioning project based on the Quality Management System and the Environmental Management System, but found that these systems were unsuitable for project management from several viewpoints. In order to solve these problems, the Task Team for Enforcement Backend Project temporarily managed the decommissioning project in 2013. To enforce the project management systematically, the Research and Development Promotion Section was organized newly in the Environmental Research and Development Department in April 2014, and started the project management. On the other hand, to establish the primary and secondary documents related to the new system, until April 2015 the section has been developing the Enforcement Management System (EMS) to separate from the Quality Management System or the Environmental Management System. This report summarizes the state of these activities in the FY 2014.

The Horonobe Underground Research Laboratory (URL) Project has being pursued by Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) to enhance the reliability of relevant disposal technologies through investigations of the deep geological environment within the host sedimentary formation at Horonobe, northern Hokkaido. The URL Project consists of two major research areas, "Geoscientific Research" and "Research and Development on Geological Disposal Technologies", and proceeds in three overlapping phases, "Phase I: Surface-based investigations", "Phase II: Investigations during tunnel excavation" and "Phase III: Investigations in the underground facilities", over a period of around 20 years. Phase III investigation was started in 2010 fiscal year. The in-situ experiment for performance confirmation of engineered barrier system (EBS experiment) had been prepared from 2013 to 2014 fiscal year at G.L.-350m gallery, and heating by electric heater in simulated overpack had started in January, 2015. One of objectives of the experiment is acquiring data concerned with Thermal-Hydrological-Mechanical-Chemical (THMC) coupled behavior. These data will be used in order to confirm the performance of engineered barrier system. This report summarizes the measurement data acquired from the EBS experiment. The period of data acquisition is from December, 2014 to March, 2015. It will be periodically published summarized data of EBS experiment.

For implementation of disposal of the radioactive waste generated from Japan Atomic Energy Agency, Waste Management System which manages all of the waste data has been developed. We surveyed the kinds of data needed for the waste management at each site, and we set the standard waste management data items. We developed conceptual design for the waste management system and established the system for major sites, Nuclear Science Research Institute, Ningyo-toge Environmental Engineering Center, Fugen Decommissioning Engineering Center, Oarai Research and Development Center, Nuclear Fuel Cycle Engineering Laboratories. For other small sites, we accumulate waste data to the common waste storage database. Therefore, we have developed the system which manages the quality assurance waste data depending on waste treatment situation in JAEA.

In the IX-th experimental series in 1980's at the fast critical assembly (FCA) facility, central fission rate ratios for TRU such as Np, Pu, Pu, Am, Am and Cm to Pu were measured in the seven uranium-fueled assemblies with systematically changed neutron spectra. In the present report, benchmark problems with respect to central fission rate ratios were established for the assessment of the TRU's fission cross sections. We reported the sample calculation results on the benchmark problems by using JENDL-4.0.

Times Cited Count:11 Percentile:60.11(Environmental Sciences)We have studied yields of DNA damages induced by soft X-rays obtained from a conventional soft X-ray machine in a LET region between -rays and ultrasoft X-rays. Practically soft X-rays with a broad energy spectrum emitted from a target of heavy metal, such as tungsten, have been widely used not only for radiobiological experiments but also for medical application such as mammography. Radiation weighting factors for these soft X-rays have been assigned to be 1 by ICRP. However, the fraction of a large number of low energy photons in the spectrum (below several tens keV) provided by bremsstrahlung is expected to be more effective for DNA damage induction than -rays since low energy photo- and Auger electrons predominantly ejected in consequence of a photoelectric effect can produce dense clusters of ionization/excitation on DNA molecules. We have examined the yield of DNA strand breaks induced by white soft X-rays (150 kVp, tungsten target). Yields of base lesions revealed by base excision repair enzymes will be also presented.

Mott gap excitations in the optimally doped high- superconductor YBaCuO ( = 93 K) have been studied by the resonant inelastic X-ray scattering method. Anisotropic spectra in the -plane are observed in a twin-free crystal. The excitation from the one-dimensional CuO chain is enhanced at 2 eV near the zone boundary of the direction, while the excitation from the CuO plane is broad at 1.5-4 eV and almost independent of the momentum transfer. Theoretical calculation based on the one-dimensional and two-dimensional Hubbard model reproduces the observed spectra when different values of the on-site Coulomb energy are assumed. The Mott gap of the CuO chain site is found to be much smaller than that of the CuO plane site.

We report a resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) study of charge excitations in the electron-doped high- superconductor NdCeCuO. The intraband and interband excitations across the Fermi energy are separated for the first time by tuning the experimental conditions properly to measure charge excitations at low energy. A dispersion relation with -dependent width emerges clearly in the intraband excitation, while the intensity of the interband excitation is concentrated around 2 eV near the zone center. The experimental results are consistent with theoretical calculation of the RIXS spectra based on the Hubbard model.

Times Cited Count:0 Percentile:0(Chemistry, Multidisciplinary)We have studied electronic excitations of hole-doped manganese oxides LaSrMnO ( and ) by resonant inelastic X-ray scattering at Mn K absorption edge. We observed in the excitation spectra that the Mott gap of LaSrMnO was filled by hole-doping. In LaSrMnO, which shows a metal-insulator transition, we found that temperature dependence of scattering intensity is different between two scattering vectors. It may reflects a anisotropic electronic structure which originates from the orbital degrees of freedom in manganese oxides.

The minimum and maximum energy of runaway electron beams is shown to be limited by collisions and Bremsstrahlung radiation, respectively. It is also found that a massive injection of a high-Z gas such as Xenon can terminate a disruption-generated runaway current before the runaway electrons hit the walls.
